2. Background

AdventureWorks, Inc. is a multinational manufacturer and seller of bicycles and bicycle accessories. The sales manager expressed frustration with static sales reports. There was an immediate need to have accessible and up-to-date executive sales reports in order to rapidly assess and adjust sales strategy.

3. Business Request & User Stories

The sales manager - Stephen Marshall - would like to improve sales reports by switching from static reports to more dynamic ones in the form of visual dashboards.

4. Data Cleaning & Transformation using SQL

Using the business needs that were defined in the user stories, I performed the following:

  • Selected Appropriate Data Tables
  • Extracted tables using SQL
  • Cleansed and tranformed the data using SQL

5. Data Modeling

Below is the data model that was constructed after the tables were cleansed and loaded into Tableau:

6. Final Dashboard

The final dashboard meets the user cases and provides users flexible insight into products sold by category, customer, and location

Stephen can now track sales over time, compare it to budget, and quickly drill down into opportunities to market, upsell, or target key accounts. The final dashboard can be found here.
